In 2021, 1,354 people died in 1,242 fatal crashes in Ohio, about 4 a day. That was 10.1% more than in 2020 (1,230) and the most since 2002. The death rate was 11.5 per 100,000 residents, compared with 13.0 in the United States. Ohio had the 6th most traffic deaths of the 51 states and DC and the 29th-highest death rate. Pedestrians accounted for 12% of deaths, and 25% of fatal crashes were speeding-related.
