Privacy
US Road Deaths is a statistics site. It does not need to know who you are, and it collects as little as it can. This page lists everything it does collect and why.
Cookies the site needs
The site sets two cookies it needs to work: a session cookie and a security token that protects forms such as the email signup. They hold no personal information and expire after 2 hours without a visit. If you make a cookie choice, it is remembered in your browser's storage so we don't ask again.
Analytics
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_…) that last up to two years and sends your IP address, browser details and the pages you view to Google. We do not use it to identify you or for advertising.
Nothing is loaded until you accept analytics cookies.
Advertising
This site does not show ads.
Changing your cookie choice
You can accept or reject analytics and advertising cookies separately, and change your mind at any time from Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a "no" to analytics and advertising cookies until you choose otherwise.
Email updates
If you sign up for email updates about a state or county, we store your email address, the place you chose and when you confirmed. Nothing is sent until you confirm the address from the email we send, and signups that are never confirmed are deleted after 30 days. Your address is used only to tell you about new data for that place and is not shared. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes your address.
People in the crash records
FARS contains no names, and this site does not try to identify anyone involved in a crash. Ages are shown as ranges, vehicle identification numbers are not shown, and crashes are not linked to news reports.
