In 2024, 1,127 people died in 1,060 fatal crashes in Pennsylvania, about 3 a day. That was 6.9% fewer than in 2023 (1,211) and the fewest since 2019. The death rate was 8.6 per 100,000 residents, compared with 11.5 in the United States. Pennsylvania had the 10th most traffic deaths of the 51 states and DC and the 42nd-highest death rate. Pedestrians accounted for 15% of deaths, and 37% of fatal crashes were speeding-related.
